Thyme Simple Syrup

The star of this recipe is this liquid sweetener that so simple easy to make. It’s essential for a drink like this to have a strong and flavorful sweetener. Thyme herbs are abslute favorite and make for great garnish with cooking. It has a profound aroma but it’s not overpowering. that’s exactly why thyme is the best.

To make this thyme simple syrup you really only need 3 ingredients: water, sugar, and thyme. Simple add these ingredients to a medium sized saucepan over medium heat. Once bubles start to appear let simmer for about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let the mixture steep for 1-2 hours. Steeping for a long enough time is key to a flavorful simple syrup.

If you have any leftover simple syrup don’t throw it out just yet. Use it just as you would any other sweetener llike maple syrup or honey. Add it to plain yogurt, other drinks, or ice cream for ideas.

How to Make Grapefruit Thyme Mocktails

Add water, sugar, and thyme spriggs to a medium sized saucepan over medium heat. Once bubles start to appear let simmer for about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let the mixture steep for 1-2 hours. Add several ice cubes to a drinking glass. Pour

Store the thyme simple syrup seperately in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze in the freezer for up to 2 months. A useful way to freeze this simple syrup is by using an ice tray. Make these mocktails whenever you please with bottled grapefruit juice and sparkling water.

Questions

Should I use fresh or dried thyme?

Fresh thyme is best for steeping. Dried herbs lose alot of flavor and is more difficult to break through and steep.

Should I use bottles grapefruit juice or freshly squeezed grapefruit juice?

This recipe uses 100% grapefruit juice. It should be easily available at most grocery stores.

Ingredients

Thyme Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 8 sprigs of thyme
  • 1 cup water

Mocktail

  • Ice
  • 2 tablespoons thyme simple syrup
  • ¼ cup grapefruit juice
  • 1 cup plain sparking water

Instructions

  1. Add water, sugar, and thyme sprigs to a small saucepan. Bring to a light simmer. Once bubbles start to appear, reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove syrup from heat and steep for 1-2 hours. Remove thyme sprigs and set aside
  2. Add several ice cubes, thyme simple syrup, grapefruit juice, and plain sparkling water to a drinking glass. For more sweet drink add more simple syrup. Mix with spoon. Enjoy.
