In order to make Whipped Hot Chocolate, you will definitely need either a milk frother or a mixer. For the mixer, it could be a hand mixer or stand mixer. I used this milk frother the first time I attempted to whip the hot chocolate. I noticed it was taking considerably longer to get the whipped consistency I was looking for. If you’re looking for a quicker alternative then it’s best to use a mixer.
The second time making Whipped Hot Chocolate I used this hand mixer. I was able to whip the hot chocolate in a few minutes with only using one beater.
How To Make Whipped Hot Chocolate
Gather: Gather hot chocolate mix, whipping cream, and milk. Make sure your whipping cream remains cold. To be sure, keep whipping cream in the fridge until ready to use.
Whip: Add the hot chocolate mix and heavy cream to a bowl. Use frother or mixer to combine. Continue to mix for a few minutes or until peaks form (or desired consistency).
Prep Drink: Warm milk in the microwave or stovetop if you want a warm drink. For cold drinks gather your ice.
Assemble: Add milk to cup. Scoop the whipped hot chocolate over the top of the milk. Mix together for frothy drink.
How to Drink?
Use a spoon to mix the Whipped Hot Chocolate. Drink directly from the cup or use a straw for a cold drink.
What’s better warm or iced?
Believe it or not, both options are equally delicious. So it really comes down to preferences. At the moment I’m still enjoying cold drinks although the temperatures outside are dropping so most of the time I enjoy this drink cold.
Can I use non dairy milk?
One thing I love about this recipe is that it is non-dairy friendly. Use coconut milk in place of heavy whipping cream to form whipped hot chocolate and top over a non-dairy milk of your preference.
Do I need sugar?
Recipes often will call for added sugar to make Whipped Hot Chocolate which is fine. This recipe uses regular hot chocolate which already has sugar added. I tested making this recipe with and without the additional sugar (relying on the sweetness from the hot chocolate) and realized it was still delicious without. If you’re looking for something sweeter add 1-2 tbsp of granulated sugar to the hot chocolate and heavy whipping cream and mix.
Dress It Up
While I enjoy more simple things you can definitely dress up your Whipped Hot Chocolate with a few extra things.
- Sprinkle extra layer of hot chocolate on top
- Add marshmallows
- Drizzle sprinkles to make this drink more festive
- Add more fluffiness with whipped cream
