These French Toast Waffles are the best of both worlds. Thick slices of challah bread in an egg custard with cinnamon.
There’s nothing better than a batch of French toast for breakfast. It’s one of those meals I don’t make much but I’m reminded why I need to start because it’s that good. So let’s kick it up a notch with French Toast waffles. It’s the perfect way to shake things up for breakfast. For french toast I love to use challah bread so it was only right I try it for waffles.
Enjoy these waffles with a dusting of powdered sugar, sliced bananas, and syrup.
Ingredients
The ingredients for French Toast Waffles are no different than the ingredients needed for french toast.
Challah bread: a nice thick bread like challah bread is great for french toast. Cut slices in ½ to an inch thick for luscious french toast waffles.
Eggs: the binder for a nice custard to coat slices of bread
Milk: to thin out eggs and form an egg custard
Cinnamon:
Vanilla Extract: the real star of this recipe that brings it all together
Syrup: drizzle French Toast Waffles in maple syrup
Fresh Fruit: top these waffles off with bananas or any other berrries.
Tools You’ll Need
Bowl: preferably a shallow bowl that is large enough to whisk egg mixture and fit a slice of challah bread comfortably.
Fork: to mix egg mixture
Waffle Maker: This handy waffle maker makes a round but thinner waffle compared to thick belgian waffles.
How To Make French Toast Waffles
Prep: Turn on a waffle maker to heat. In a medium bowl add eggs, milk, ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Save time and use less dishes by whisking these ingredients in the same bowl you will use to coat the slice sofbead. Whisk until completely combined.
Dip: Dip a slice of challah bread on both sides into the egg mixture for about 5 seconds each. Try not to let the slice of bread stay in too long.
Cook: Place the slice of challah bread on a heated waffle maker. Cook according to waffle maker instructions. My waffle make gets pretty hot quickly so I cooked my waffles for several minutes (until golden brown). Repeat by taking another slice of bread and dipping in the egg custard mixture and cooking on a waffle maker until all slices are used.
Serve: Sprinkle with powdered sugar and add slices of banana. Serve immediately. Enjoy with syrup.
